
Getting
Fancy with Bar Charts
Essential Learning Skills: Creating a
bar chart, comparing two groups of data, adding clip art, changing alignment in
a spreadsheet file, chart formats including labels, x and y axis’, gridlines,
titles, legends, moving charts on the spreadsheet, creating a footer, setting
up Portrait format, and printing.
1. Open a new Spreadsheet file.
2. Annie and Billy are brother and sister. Each summer, they run a lemonade stand on the
corner of the street where they live. In
the past, they have worked together and split the profits. This year, however, they have decided that
they well each individually run the stand for a week and keep their own
profits. Organize the information below
into the spreadsheet.

3. Format the numbers in columns B and C to be displayed
as Currency. (In other words, use the $ symbol.) Click, Drag, and Select the Columns you
would like to change to Currency; then click the Currency
Icon on the toolbar under the Number section of your Home tab. Look over at the number
section in the middle of your Ribbon. Click on the dollar sign. ($)
5. Use the information in your spreadsheet to create a
bar chart. Click on the Insert Tab --> Bar Chart--> and select the first 2D
bar chart selection.
6. Next, click on your chart again and look at Chart Tools
at the top of the screen. Click on Design
and select one of the designer bar charts displayed .
7. Your spread sheet should look something like

5. Adding Clip
Art to the chart.

Select
anyplace outside of the chart, go to INSERT and select Online Picture.

The
Clip Art window will appear from Bing. Type a word
in the search box that would be appropriate for the Lemonade Stand like "lemonade stand clip art" (Notice: Type in “Lemonade Clip Art”. If the clip art takes too long to appear, you
can always go to Google Images and type in “Lemonade Clip Art”. Right
Click and copy and paste from Google Images.)

Inserting
the graphic into your chart. Once you
have the graphic on your spreadsheet, drag it onto your bar chart. Next, hold down your Shift Key and Left Click on your graphic and then your Bar Chart. (Do not release the shift key until you have clicked on both.)
With both your chart and picture selected, go to the arrange section of your ribbon and click on "Group". Now your image will be merged with your Bar Chart.

6. Finishing

Click on the Insert Tab then look at the Text Section of your ribbon. click on Text
Box and and draw a square on your spread sheet .

Double
click on the text box and type in your name.

Don’t
forget to print preview to double check that your chart is just the way you
want it.

the page and turn it in.
